Franchise History

Smokey Mo's was founded in 2000 by Morris "Mo" Melchor and his wife, Lisa, in Simple, Texas. Mo's journey in the barbecue industry began at the age of 12 in 1962, working at Longhorn BBQ. Over the years, he gained extensive experience by holding various positions in different barbecue establishments. ​ The original Smokey Mo's restaurant was a family endeavor, with all five of the Melchor children contributing to its operations in various capacities.

The restaurant quickly became known for its authentic Texas-style barbecue, featuring meats smoked in-house daily over Post Oak wood, a traditional choice that imparts a mild smokiness, allowing the meat's natural flavors to shine.
